CANCERS - UK SURVIVAL RATES REVEALED
So what are the survival rates for most cancers in the UK today? Here we reveal the true and alarming figures. According to a recent Sunday Times article dated the 8th June 2008, the UK survival rates after 5 years for most cancers is just 20%. That's to say 4 out of 5 cancer patients die within 5 years of starting their treatments. This is due either to the chemo or surgery failing to halt the spread of the disease or where the cancer is too advanced for any chance of a cure
This appalling UK survival rate is in sharp contrast to the rest of the world. For example in the EU the survival rate is around 40%. In the USA it's around 50%. And in Russia around 35%
Another factor affecting UK survival rates is due in large measure to the poor quality of available drugs in the NHS. This is not the fault of the NHS but the cheap drugs that are sold to it. The reason? Limited budgets. But in the private sector, the higher quality of drugs available increase your chances of survival by a big margin by around 50%. They may not cure you but you have the chance of living a few more years with some quality of life.
